It was a great day for a dog fair! The Old Westbury Gardens Dog Fair to be exact! The festival featured games, agility demonstrations and exhibits by animal welfare organizations.

We LOOOOVE the PupCrawl! Our good buddy Joseph Hassan and his friends are the brilliant minds behind this amazing event!

The mission of The Pup Crawl is to help shelters and rescue groups care for the millions of pets who lose their homes every year. In 2009, they launched The Brooklyn Bridge Pup Crawl, an exciting nighttime walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge that raised funds for six non-profit partner shelter and rescue programs in New York, California and Florida. Rescue groups across the country heard about The Pup Crawl and, to date, additional Pup Crawls have taken place in California, Arizona and Pennsylvania — raising tens of thousands of dollars for rescue animals. The next Brooklyn Bridge Pup Crawl will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2011.

This year they are extending the fundraising power of The Pup Crawl to local animal groups across the country through the new Pup Crawl Lights-Up Leash™. The idea was to develop a new, fashionable and memorable illuminated dog leash that could serve as a serious fundraising vehicle for animal shelters and rescues. Stubby The Military Dog and the History of Dog Clothes!

It seems that dog clothes were first used by the military to protect their faithful four-legged companions in the same way that armor and uniforms helped to protect the soldiers fighting next to them. Military dog clothes were not created for fashion but to protect these brave and dedicated dogs from the weather and even attacks.

One of the most famous military dogs was Stubby who was adopted by an infantry unit in 1917 and went to World War I with the unit. He was a highly decorated dog even receiving a Purple Heart. A group of French women made him a “uniform” to display all his metals.

He also looks like he has a bit of chihuahua in him! GOOOOOOOOOOOOO STUBBY!

Hulllllooooo! Wow am I overdue for a blog update. I'll do my best to recap our kick off to summer. It has been an excellent one so far!

We brought our helmets and driver ( Carlene) to the 4th annual Time's Up! Doggie Pedal Parade! We stopped traffic as we gathered with other canine friendly cyclists to ride in baskets and trailers that were attached to our owners bikes! We listened to tunes playing on the "music bike", and ended up back at Washington Square Park for a party complete with free snacks and beverages for all.

This ride benefitted the adoption of homeless animals. We had an amazing time and are really looking forward to next years ride!

Next stop? Cherry Grove!!!!!!

Washington was a Woofin' Good Time!

Wow ! What a great weekend we had. MeiMei and I were invited to participate in the Fashion 4 Paws event thrown by the Washington DC Humane Society. The event raised close to 500,000.00 dollars and was held at The National Building Museum in our nation's capital! We took advantage of the opportunity and went down a day early to check out the sites and to see just how dog friendly DC is!

We arrived at The Topaz a Kimpton pet friendly hotel. We were greeted with this awesome announcement of our arrival! There was also some delicious kibble in the dog bowl! The staff at the Kimpton was very friendly and we even got to sit with Carlene while she had breakfast in the small cafe in the lobby!

Our room was very swank for a couple of pups like us... and we were quite cozy!

MeiMei especially liked the sunken tub! I never met a dog that took so many baths!!!

We especially liked the lobby where we got to lounge and hang out with our pal from The Topaz!

But as nice as it was staying in we HAD to get out and see the sights! We saw The Washington Monument , The WWII Veterans Memorial , The Lincoln Memorial AND The White House.

Oh and of course we were hoping to catch up with Beau while we were there, but as luck would have it he was at a canine summit somewhere. We did however meet these faboo fellow canine tourists!

We did stop and take some time to smell all the beautiful flowers that were in bloom. We heard that we had missed the peak of the Cherry Blossoms , but that was okay with us.

Oh and one last thing. We need to extend a BIG apology to the squirrel that MeiMei forced back into his hole. She gets that way some times. XOXO Emmett

The Macy's Petacular was Spectacular and The Brooklyn Mutt Show was Loco!

What can be better than a free day of family fun where pets are included? …Macy’s annual Petacular Fair® that is Such an event! Back for its 14th year, Macy’s shuts down two city blocks on Broadway in order to allow pets and their owners to partake in fashion shows, performances, special events, and an overall celebration of spring. The outdoor excitement builds up the anticipation for the grand opening of the 37th annual Macy’s Flower Show® inside the Herald Square store. Carlene did an OUTSTANDING job with our take on the spring season and our Canine friends did not dissapoint either! Take a look!

The Second Annual Mutt Show arrived at the Brooklyn Lyceum. This show featured activities, giveaways and a first, the SNOOK-A-LIKE contest for the dog that looks most like Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi!!!!!!!.

There was a special essay contest for kids called "Why My Dog Is Brooklyn", and a Doggie Zumba class! We got there a bit late but we FELL IN LOVE with these portaits by Dean Russo.

The Toby Project will end the killing of more than 10,000 dogs and cats each year in New York City's municipal animal shelters by preventing the births of unwanted dogs and cats.

They will make New York City a true "no-kill' city by delivering free and low-cost spay/neuter services to all five boroughs of New York City using mobile surgical vans specifically equipped for this purpose. By reaching out to targeted communities, thier aim is to prevent the breeding of the very dogs and cats whose offspring account for most of the animals relinquished to our municipal shelters, where they are often killed.
A portion of the proceeds from ytoday's events went to The Toby Project!!

Climbing 120 steps to get closer to the Gods in Coba Mexico surely paid off. I searched high and low to find a pet boutique in Cancun and thought I was coming home empty handed with nothing to give Emmett and MeiMei from my travels. I am happy to report that the canine Gods provided!!! Located in Mexico's International Airport , Hot Dogs All Dressed literally was the perfect ending to my travels.

This well merchandised kiosk has just the right mix of haute mode items for your dog , and yes even your cat at reasonable price points!!

I spotted this amazing Official Mariachi tee for Emmett .

MeiMei can let everyone know how "wanted" she is in an airbrushed Day of the Dead tee.

This concept is simply genius!! So genius that we spotted Snoop Dog purchasing quite a few items for his daughters precious little Yorkie.

We are hoping that Hot Dogs All Dressed in going to expand!!! It will make souvenir shopping that much easier and layovers that much more fun!!!!!!!

Over Thanksgiving break I had the opportunity to fly down to South Florida. I had heard there were a couple of amazing dog boutiques but being the obsessed dog owner that I am I had to see for myself. My first stop was Waggs to Riches. Nestled in the heart of Delray Beach, Florida, Waggs to Riches is located on Atlantic Avenue, amidst the hustle and bustle of a charming beach town. Delray Beach is a wonderful vacation spot and maintains the livelihood of its residents. This colorful and well merchandised store is the brainchild of Kimberly Curler a former stay at home mom who was becoming fanatical about dressing her two chihuahuas Rosie and Lilly ( we can relate) that she just had to open a store.

So in 2005 she opened Wags to Riches! Catering to the upscale Del Ray crowd as well as suntanned tourists there is something for everyone in this fabulous boutique.

If you are looking for the extravagant there are bags by Kiki Hamman. Something a little less pricey? How about the wonderful Susan Lanci harnesses of which she carries the widest collection I've seen in store anywhere!

Just want to bring home a trinket? Toys by Haute Diggity Dog are her best sellers, there are tons to choose from! I was especially impressed with the dog Collars for big dogs by Dean and Tyler. This busy little store is smart and chic and a must see when in South Florida!

Our next stop? Lap of Luxury in the ever so fabulous Boca Raton!

Lap of Luxury is a Dog Spa that features seven mini-boutiques throughout the store with a host of posh accessories from top European, Asian and

American designers that include bags, clothing, pet carriers, collars and leashes, pet beds, jewelry and accessories. Some of my faves? The Hello Kitty Boutique where MeiMei scored some super cute outfits, the Paris Erotica Boutique! Our favorite New York City resource for these clothes is now closed so we were really excited to see this collection!

I was literally speechless as I stepped through the doors! The state-of-the-art grooming salon where pets are groomed and coiffed with loving care by trained professionals and overseen by "groomer to the stars" and new managing partner, Jonathan David of Animal Planet's"Dogs 101" and "Groomer Has It", rivaled any chic luxury salon I have been in to date!

Who's Your Doggy? We found out in Ft. Greene!

I'll admit I am a sucker for a good spontaneous adventure so it's not surprising that I found this great pet store while sniffing around Ft. Greene! Who's Your Doggy is situated in a very sweet neighborhood with a hip sneaker store Pedigree and WTF Coffee Lab where Carlene had the best cup of Maccchiato she has ever had right around the corner. No joke! She said so!

In a world where some neighborhood pet stores are more like warehouses with limited space to move, here's a store that actually has breathing room! There are aisles of treats, dog food, toys, and just about anything you can imagine to make your pet's life healthier and more rewarding. The goal at W.Y.D. is to provide premium,holistic and organic brands of food for cats and dogs.

The brands I saw were free of by-products,sugars,fillers,food colorings,or gluten and are recommended by the "Whole Dog Journal". If you don't see your brand in the store they will try to special order it for you.

In addition to carrying Cat and Dog supplies, W.Y.D. provides grooming services by Casper Cassarino. On Tuesday Wednesday and Sunday you can use thier sinks,shampoos,dryers and towels to wash your own dirty dog.

W.Y.D. has good prices. I've compared their prices to other pet stores and they're considerably lower. As you know, pet supplies are becoming more and more expensive so a little savings helps when you have two dogs to feed. ;o)

Atmosphere is also muy importante for us so if you like lots of activity, and the chance to see other people's dogs, you're going to love this store! On my last visit to the store, I saw two extremely friendly dogs, a very well behaved pet loving child and a lovable Tabby! This makes shopping for pet supplies all the more fun!

I am also impressed with the friendly and caring staff ! Manager Jesse Santiago and owner Tracy Klonowski were both knowledgeable and eager to show us around and introduce us to new brands!

We found this cute little collapseable soft sided dog house...perfect for watching Kung Fu movies while munching on fortune cookies from Kung Fu Fido!

Ted and Bella pretty much rule the place but that's okay they were both very welcoming and hospitable!

So next time you venture out of Gotham...or wherever you reside check out Who's Your Doggy! Definitely worth the trip!!!!!

Wow! The summer just zipped by! Phew am I behind!

My Birthday Party was a blast!!!!! I recommend Sweet Licks on Cherry Grove anytime for a Canine Celebration. The owners were so gracious and provided us with not only a great space but the most delicious cupcakes ever!

We represented for The Good Dog Foundation by attending Rachel McPherson's reading of her book
" Every Dog Has A Gift" . We were even invited onstatge to speak about our experience as a "Good Dog Team" !

We spent time in Asbury Park with our good friend Karen and attended the SATO benefit for rescued dogs from Puerto Rico!

We made some new friends , met up with some old friends and tried on fabulous clothes at Pet Fashion Week 2010!

We went upstate to visit Family.......

And MeiMEi was in a movie!!!!!

All in all it was a pretty excellent summer!

Party Hats and Honey's 19th Birthday!!!!!

Counting down the day's to my 7th Birthday!!! Last night we made goodie bags for our guests and well tonight we couldn't resist having more fun designing hats so that all of our canine friends can look fabulous.

When considering what to make we were torn between top hats and the classic cone shaped hat. Since we will have dogs of various sizes at our party the cone shaped hat was easiest to alter to different sizes and won out!!! Here is what you will need!

:: 1 Pack each of Large and Small Glitter Pom Poms ( or any Pom Poms will do):: Scissors :: Glue Gun

::Paper reinforcements :: Construction Paper :: Stapler :: Ruler :: Yarn :: Hole Punch

Cut a 3x5 rectangle from your piece of Construction paper. We chose a thicker stock weight for a sturdier hat! 3x5 is good for small dogs. 5x7 works well for medium and larger dogs!

Fold the long edges of the rectangle in toward one another to form the cone and staple. Cut the corners of the hat to form a round circular shape that will sit flat on the dog's head!

We are now ready to decorate! With your glue gun squeeze a small amount of glue onto the bottom of a large Pom Pom and attach to the top of the hat. Scatter the sticky paper reinforcements onto and around the hat. While you are at it glue on some small glitter Pom Poms.

With a hole punch punch holes on either side of
the hat and place a reinforcement over it to prevent tearing. Tie a knot at the end of a piece of yarn and thread through. Make sure your yarn is long enough to fit snugly yet comfortably under your dogs chin.

You have now made a fun party hat!! You can use a variety of materials...felt, glitter,pipe cleaners, buttons are a few of the things that come to mind. Just remember to keep the hat light and comfy for your pup to wear!

Speaking of parties we live in a pretty terrific neighborhood. Honey is a neighborhood dog who recently celebrated her 19th birthday and we were honored to attend!

How-to make Birthday Bash Goodie Bags

This Saturday we are celebrating Emmett's Birthday at Sweet Licks in Cherry Grove on Fire Island. I thought it would be fun to share some of what we are doing in preparation for the big day! I am very crafty and love to make party favors that are unique. This year I am making Emmett's Goodie Bags, Birthday Hats , Cake and Ice Cream and will be posting one how-to a day to share with you all.

First up the Goodie Bag! Keep in mind I am an amatuer at photography ;o)

You will need ........
:: Brown Paper Lunch Bags ::
:: Cellophane bags ( printed or transparent ) I got mine from the Petco Bulk Bins!!! No extra cost! ::
:: Pinking Shears ::

:: Double sided Tape or a Glue Stick ::
:: Stapler ::
:: Foil Stars ::
:: Treats ( store bought in bulk from Petco plus homemade ones. Recipe to follow!) ::
:: Favors ( Be creative mine are for the humans and are dog themed pens paper clips, erasers, and keychains) Only a buck for a four pack at Petco!! ::
:: I stuck in a baseball card of Emmett as a therapy dog with info about The Good Dog Foundation ::

Next cut your paper bag with pinking shears. I did mine about 3/4 of the way down. I wanted to leave room for the cello bag to puff out of the top!

Fold the top over to create a lip!

Next cut the cellophane bag in half. I cut mine so that the Petco logo would not show.

Then cut that in half and then down the sides so that you have a narrow strip.

Take a piece of double sided tape and slide the cellophane up under the lip of the bag and wrap it vertically to the back side of the bag and do the same so that it looks like this.

You are now ready to fill the bag.....take another cello bag and put it inside the lunch bag. Fill it with your treats and party favors.

Then pinch the sides and staple.

Next you will want to gather the top of the bag to close. You can use ribbon , yarn or string. I chose a key ring to close mine.

Puff out the top and cut with the pinking shears to make pretty!

Finish off with some shiny stars!!!! Voila!!!! You have a great inexpensive goodie bag to hand out to your guests.

Be creative! I used lunch bags but you can use anything from Chinese food cartons to decorated Ziplock bags to make yours! Tomorrow we make Birthday Hats!!!

Day Two of Fashion Week...With a Stopover to The Mexican Feast!!!

There is a new dog in our life! His name is Johnny and he belongs to our friend Rainy.....she rescued him from Georgia! Now he is part of our pack and we love him. We love his floppy ears!

O so slack! So much has happened since my last post! Most notably I have gained a little sister MeiMei! She has been stealing hearts left and right. I wasn't thrilled with having to share the limelight but she really looks up to me and is a good cuddler! Here she is in her Hlloween cowgirl outfit. Yee ha!

Summer Streets!

Summer Streets kicked off on August 8th ans I was there! Thius event runs over three consecutive Saturdays in August (August 8, 15, 22) from 7:00 am - 1:00 pm. The route connects the Brooklyn Bridge with Central Park and there are recommended connections along low-traffic streets to the Hudson River Greenway, Harlem and Governors Island allowing participants to plan a route as long or short as they wish.

This event takes a valuable public space - our City's streets - and opens them up to people to play, walk, bike, and breathe. Summer Streets provides more space for healthy recreation and is a part of NYC's greening initiative by encouraging New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation.

Modeled on other events from around the world including Bogotá, Colombia's Ciclovia, Paris, France's Paris Plage, and even New York's own Museum Mile, this event will be part bike tour, part block party, a great time for exercise, people watching, and just enjoying summer mornings.

I had a great time and took some fun pics!

What is Bike Share?
Bike share is a network of self-serve bicycles that can be used by the public at any time. Stations are located every few blocks and operate 24 hour a day, 365 days a year. Grab a bike, return it to any station and you're done. Bike share programs exist in 25 cities around the world and new ones are popping up every month. Listed here are some bike sharing events!

DOT issued a request for demonstrations to all major bike share companies worldwide to showcase bike share technology, three vendors answered the call. These demonstration areas will be more like exhibits than true bike share. They will let New Yorkers see, touch and feel the whole bike share set-up, from the docking kiosks to the check-out mechanisms to the bikes themselves. The public will be able to take the bikes on short “test drives” near the demonstration areas.

BIXI – serving Montreal
BIXI currently has 271 stations, and the first phase of the system will include no fewer than 300 stations and 3,000 bikes. Strategically located and concentrated near Montréal's nerve centres, the stations are separated by only 300 metres on average. BIXI's second phase expansion will begin this summer, adding 2 000 BIXI bikes and 100 new stations in the boroughs of Mercier/Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Côte-des-Neiges/Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Villeray/Saint-Michel Parc-Extension, and Le Sud-Ouest. More stations will also be added in Outremont and Rosemont- La Petite-Patrie to complete the deployment in those boroughs. I got lost in Pearl River Mart!

One of the fantastic things about hanging out with Carlene is tht she takes me to some really fun shopping spots! Pearl River Mart is my favorite! We always find such great things! If you haven't been ...what are you waiting for? Here is what we found today.

The first thing that caught my eye was this great Kangaroo chair!!! Who wouldn't want this?

On the Set with Ambush Doggie Makeovers

On Monday, July 6th TODAY ambushed three lucky dogs on Rockefeller Plaza with a doggie makeover!

I was hoping to undo the damage Carlene had done by giving me a homegrown hair cut but it wasn't in the stars for me to be groomed on set!

The make-over crew,Dara Foster from PupStyle and Celebrity Dog Groomer, Jorge Bendersky worked their magic on 3 lucky pups! I have to say that they really needed the makeover more than me! I'm just sayin!
